Play Development
There are many types of play; all of which are critical for our development. Play helps us to think sequentially and imaginatively, to develop problem-solving skills, to promote physical strength and coordination development, and to develop our language and processing skills. Children with developmental delays may have difficulty with:
- Using objects as something else (eg: pretending that a box is a car)
- Attributing feelings and events (such as a teddy bear feeling hungry)
- Using thinking skills to relate their own experiences to another person or character (eg: taking teddy on a trip to the zoo)
- Dealing with problems (such as the car getting a flat tyre).
